| Axle Equipment |
Adjustment - Lockheed 7" brakes
1 Jack up axle raising wheel clear of ground .
2 Remove road wheel .
3 Revolve brake drum until adjust ment hole is in line with toothe d adjustment wheel. Insert a cranked lever or screwdriver no t exceeding 6" in length, and tur n the toothed wheel in a clockwis e direction relative to it's fixing , until one side bears against th e drum. Then continue turning unti l both shoes bear hard. Back of f the adjustment the least possi ble amount until the wheel ca n be revolved. This brake is the n correctly adjusted. Carry ou t same procedure on opposit e wheel .
4 Replace road wheel, makin g sure to correctly tighten whee l nuts (Torque to 65lbs/ft in se quence - i.e. North, South, East , West - NEVER clockwise or anti-clockwise. With 5 stud wheel s Torque to 65lbs/ft in opposites .
5 Carry out same procedure o n opposite wheel . |
Adjustment - Lockheed 8", 9" an d 10" brakes
1 Jack up axle, raising whee l clear of ground .
2 Remove road wheel .
3 Revolve brake drum until adjust ment hole is in line with screw-driver slot-headed adjustmen t screw. Then with a screwdrive r rotate the adjustment screw in a clockwise direction as far as i t will go and then return it "tw o clicks" ensuring at the same tim e that brake drum revolves freely . This brake is then correctly ad justed .
4 Replace road wheel, making sur e to correctly tighten wheel nut s (Torque to 65lbs/ft in sequence -
i.e. North, South, East, West -NEVER clockwise or anti-clock-wise. With 5 stud wheels Torqu e to 65lbs/ft in opposites .
5 Carry out same procedure o n opposite wheel . |
Adjustment - Girling 12" brake
1 Jack up axle raising whee l clear of ground .
2 The square headed adjustmen t screw is located on the back o f the brake back plate. This mus t be turned in a clockwise direc tion as far as it will go and the n returning only sufficient to allo w wheels to revolve freely. Thi s brake is then correctly adjusted .
3 Replace road wheel, making sur e to correctly tighten wheel nut s (Torque to 65lbs/ft in sequence -
i.e. North, South, East, West -NEVER clockwise or anti-clock-wise. With 5 stud wheels Torqu e to 65lbs/ft in opposites .
4 Carry out same procedure o n opposite wheel . |
